New York City, NY – Time is running out to see some of your favorite works of art by Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollack, and others as the Metropolitan Museum of Art (affectionately known as The MET) is going to remove these notable works of art to make room for pieces created by actor turned artist Jim Carrey.
Carrey mainly known for his roles in movies such as Liar Liar, The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, and The Truman Show is something of a secret savant of the underground art community. His artwork is inspired by real life and could almost be compared to a modern take on Picasso and Georges Braque.
“We really wanted to bring more popular artists to the museum,” said Annabeth Culver a curator at the MET since May. “People think of museums as places where old things are hung on walls and for people today that is just not very exciting,” said Culver. “Having an artist who is already established in Hollywood is going to draw more people to the museum.”
The Jim Carrey exhibition room will be available to the public in mid February 2020 and will also feature works from George W Bush, Paul McCartney, Lucy Liu, Jane Seymour, Sylvester Stallone, Macaulay Culkin, and others.
“It is our hope that by 2025 we can replace the over 13,000 works of art housed in the modern and contemporary art gallery with newer and more famous artists that people can easily identify with,” said Culver.
