While Woody Allen admitted that he appreciates the support of A list actress Scarlett Johansson he recently confided to a friend that he would no longer cast her in one of his movies because she is too old. Johansson stared in the 2006 Woody Allen movie Scoop when she was 21 and the male lead Hugh Jackman was 37. Allen is known to cast female leads and love interests that are far younger than the male leads, and at 34 Scarlett is too old to ever be cast in one of Allens productions as a love interest said a friend.
With Allen’s penchant for casting middle aged men with considerably younger women one has to wonder if art imitates life or if life imitates art. As Allen and his former step-daughter, now wife, share a 35 year age gap. Ironically Allen has never written or produced a movie where the lead actress marries or becomes romantically involved with her step-father. Perhaps this is too taboo even for Hollywood to touch. One has to wonder why so many stars such as Johansson excuse the dalliances of powerful men in the film industry as an acceptable part of working in Hollywood.
